Fantinel Pinot Grigio 2009 $20
From Friuli, Italy comes this light, slightly coppery, white, with flowery scents combined with almonds and walnuts, balanced and with excellent structure. This wine has a strong personality thanks to the microclimate in which the vines grow.

Château Val Joanis Tradition Syrah Rosé 2010 $13
From Provence in France, this salmon-colored, dry and silky, it’s brimming with pure strawberry flavour and juicy acidity. It’s sexy and sophisticated, like a supermodel with a master’s degree in literature. Try it with poached salmon or grilled shrimp.

Writer's Block Grenache 2008$15
Tapas and light fare of any kind usually goes with this versatile Grenache. The wine has a distinct strawberry and cherry aroma with a light spice on the finish and balanced acidity. This combination of flavors and aromas would match perfectly with a grilled pork chop drizzled with a fruit compote and a salad of fresh greens. It is such a multifaceted wine that it would pair with just about anything, but mostly a little sunshine, some good friends and literary dialogue.

Cataldi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2009$18
This wine shows a light ruby red color and nuances of deep pink, moderate transparency. The nose reveals intense, clean and pleasing aromas of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, almond, blackberry, peach, plum and rose. In the mouth it has good correspondence to the nose, a pleasing crisp attack however well balanced by alcohol, intense flavors, agreeable. The finish is persistent with flavors of raspberry, strawberry and peach. 90 Points Robert Parker.

Clayhouse Adobe Red 2008$15
The Adobe Red is a proprietary Zinfandel-based blend with effusive aromas of cherry spice, blackberry and pepper, with hints of brambles and plum. Cherry/berry flavors dominate on the palate. The tannins are fine and supple, and a bit of oak character adds additional vanilla notes to the balanced finish.

Steele Cabernet Sauvignon Red Hills Lake County 2008 $25
Cabernet from Red Hills tends to be big and bold, with complex fruity flavors that hint of wild berries, blackberries, cherries and spice. The trace minerals apparent in the volcanic soils lend earthy or flinty notes that add to the complexity of the wine. The grapes are pressed to stainless steel tank and undergo a 2-3 week fermentation. Fermentation is allowed to reach 85 degrees to maximize the fruit character. This wine is then laid down in a combination of French and French/American hybrid oak barrels to age for a year before bottling. 30% of the oak is new. Very drinkable now, it has the structure for judicious cellaring through 2012.
